CLEVELAND, Ohio - The Cleveland State basketball programs made it a clean sweep as J'Nathan Bullock and Kailey Klein have been selected as Cleveland State's Male and Female Athletes of the Month for December. Director of Athletics Lee Reed made the announcement on Friday.

It is the second straight year that Bullock and Klein have claimed the December honor.

Bullock, a native of Flint, Mich., led CSU to its second consecutive winning month (4-2) by averaging 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. He shot .469 (23-49) from the floor, including .462 (6-13) from three-point, while also making 27-of-32 (.844) free throws. Bullock started the month with a 13-point, seven rebound effort against Geneva before scoring 14 points with four rebounds in a win at Chicago State. He also tallied a team-high 16 points in a loss to Ohio State and a game-high 19 points, including 16 in the second half, in a win over Central Michigan. Bullock ranks 12th in the Horizon League in scoring (14.3) and 11th in rebounds (5.9).

Kailey Klein

Klein, the Horizon League scoring leader at 18.1 points per game, averaged 18.2 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game to lead the Vikings to a 4-2 mark in December. It was the Vikings first winning month since January of 2004. Klein, who hit 88 percent (44-50) of her free throws in December, was honored as the Horizon League Player of the Week on Dec. 31 after scoring 21 points in a 65-63 win over American, which included a 17-foot jumper from the left wing at the buzzer. The Cherry, Ill., native scored 17 points at Miami (OH), 18 at IUPUI, 22 at Niagara and 19 at Colgate as she was CSU's top scorer in five of the six December contests.

The Athlete of the Month award was developed last year to honor Viking student-athletes for their on-field accomplishments. A female and male honoree will be selected at the conclusion of each month during the school year.
