CLEVELAND, Ohio - Sophomore swimmer Jakub Dobies and sophomore women's basketball player Kailey Klein have been selected as Cleveland State's Male and Female Athletes of the Month for March. Director of Athletics Lee Reed made the announcement on Thursday (April 3) morning. Dobies, a native of Plock, Poland, is earned his second straight Athlete of the Month and third overall this year. He concluded his season by swimming in two events at the NCAA Division I Championships, placing 22nd in the 100 breast and 35th in the 200 breast. He was the first athlete in CSU history to compete in multiple events at the NCAA's and his 22nd place showing in the 100 breast was the highest finish ever by a CSU swimmer.
Klein is also earning her third Athlete of the Month nod this season (December & January). She led the Vikings to a 4-3 record in March, averaging 21.4 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. She was named the Most Valuable Player of the Horizon League Championship after posting 22.3 points and 9.3 rebounds as the Vikings claimed their first-ever league tournament title and earned a bid to the NCAA Championship with double-digit wins over Butler, Green Bay and Wright State. Klein tallied double-doubles in the wins over Butler and Wright State. In the opening round of the NCAA Championship, Klein, a first team All-Horizon League pick, amassed 16 points, five rebounds and four assists in a loss at fourth-ranked Stanford. The Athlete of the Month award was developed last year to honor Viking student-athletes for their on-field accomplishments.
