CLEVELAND, Ohio - Greg Murphy, a 10-year veteran of the sports information field, has been put in charge of Sports Information at Cleveland State, effective immediately.

Director of Athletics John Parry made the annoucement on Tuesday (July 5).

"Greg has proven himself as a capable writer and manager of the sports information office during his tenure and this change in duties is a reflection of his hard work over the past four years," Parry said. "Greg's dedication to the University will help us move forward with the use of social media, while also enhancing our website and increasing the use of internet broadcasts of Cleveland State sporting events."

A 2001 graduate of John Carroll University and 1997 graduate of St. Ignatius H.S., Murphy has helped advance CSU's media relations efforts since being named Assistant Sports Information Director in July of 2007. He was promoted to Associate Sports Information Director in August of 2008.

During his time at CSU, he has overseen the publicity efforts of the women's basketball, volleyball, cross country, men's and women's golf and men's and women's tennis teams. He has coordinated the content development for the athletic department's web site (www.CSUVikings.com), including a re-design of the site in December of 2007, and helped create a design template for the department's publications.

Murphy has also played a role in the department increasing video streams of athletic events online, adding men's and women's soccer and softball broadcasts last year to a lineup that already included men's and women's volleyball and baseball. In all, more than 80 events were video streamed live online during the 2010-11 academic year.

In addition, he served as the co-media coordinator for the 2011 NCAA Men's Basketball Second and Third Round games at Quicken Loans Arena.

Prior to arriving at CSU, Murphy served as the Sports Information Director at Colorado School of Mines from 2002-07 and was the Assistant Sports Information Director at Washington & Lee University (2001-02).

He is a member of the College Sports Information Director's of America and also has experience with the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns media relations game day operations staff.
