CLEVELAND, Ohio -- With the start of the fall practice season less than a month away, the Cleveland State athletic department moved towards completing its athletic staff for the year by announcing the hiring of three new staff members. Director of Athletics Lee Reed made the announcement on Monday (July 9).

Joining the Vikings are Lisa Hehman as Life Skills Specialist, Derek Millender as Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and Greg Murphy as Assistant Sports Information Director.

"I love the energy level that these three individuals bring with them to Cleveland State," Reed said. "Each of them are at the beginning of their careers in athletics and they have fresh ideas and a fresh perspective that the department will benefit from.

"We've had some pretty good people work in athletics since I arrived six years ago and although we will miss the individuals whom these three are replacing, we look forward to the contributions that Lisa, Derek and Greg will make," Reed added.

Hehman most recently served as a graduate assistant in the Student Support Services office at Missouri-Kansas City, creating and coordinating the CHAMPS/Life Skills program while also overseeing the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. A 2001 graduate of the University of Kansas, Hehman earned a master's degree in counseling and guidance from UMKC earlier this spring.

Millender has worked in the Cleveland Indians organization the last two years, overseeing the strength and conditioning for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in 2006 while currently being assigned to the Akron Aeros this season. He is a 2004 graduate of South Alabama with a degree in exercise science.

Murphy joins the sports information staff after serving as the sports information director at Colorado School of the Mines in Golden, Colo for the past five years (2002-07). A native of Cleveland, Murphy is a graduate of St. Ignatius High School (1997) and John Carroll (2001).
