CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State men's and women's fencing teams sure knew how to make a positive impression in front of fencing alumni and fans at the Wolstein Center Annex Gym on Saturday (Dec. 3) evening, scoring sweeps of Bowling Green, Case Western Reserve and Oberlin.

The men's team, led by the strong performances of the foil team of Omer Deleeuw, Tom Kotula and Mike Merker, scored decisive victories over Bowling Green (19-8), Case (17-10) and Oberlin (24-3), with the foil trio posting a trio of 8-1 routs that saw Deleeuw go undefeated in nine bouts.

On the women's side, the epee squad of notched a pair of decisions over Bowling Green and Oberlin, thanks in part to a nine-bout sweep by Leigh Pendergrass, to lead the way to a trio of 22-5 wins over the three squads.

The Vikings will have nearly two months before returning to competition when they head to the Notre Dame Duals on Jan 28.
