Contact: Alan Ashby

Dec. 2, 2004

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State men's and women's fencing teams will host the first of two dual events this season on Saturday, Dec. 4. The Vikings will square off against Bowling Green, Case Western Reserve and Oberlin in the Convocation Center annex gymnasium in action beginning at noon. Admission is free.

In addition, CSU will welcome back many of its former fencers on Saturday. The alumni will participate in bouts beginning at approximately 6:00 p.m. followed by a reception.

"This will be an exciting weekend for a couple of reasons," head coach Jim Sager noted. "Not only is this the first of two home events this year, but we are also welcoming back a number of our alumni. Saturday will be a great day for our program."

The Vikings opened the season on Nov. 20 at the Northwestern Duals. Sophomore Mike Merker led the men to a 3-1 mark with a spotless 12-0 in foil action, while the women went 1-3 as sophomore Pam Marvinney went 7-5 in epee.
