With an extensive repertoire of pitches, ranging from a low-90s fastball to a fluttering knuckleball, Gary Ball is tabbed to be the Vikings No. 2 starter this season.
2004 - Sophomore Season
Second among the starters with a 4.07 ERA...went 3-6 as the No. 3 starter, striking out 45 in 59.2 innings...allowed one run and struck-out five in 8.0 innings of work in defeating Butler in the Horizon League Championship (5/28)...pair of wins came on back-to-back shutouts of Youngstown State (4/10) and UW-Milwaukee (4/24)...allowed three hits while striking out four at YSU in a 1-0 victory in the second game of a double-header...shut down the Panthers at Eastlake Ballpark, allowing three hits while striking out six in a seven-inning, 5-0, victory...started 22 games in the lineup, mostly as the team's DH...went 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI in a 7-2 win at Ohio State (5/19)...tallied two hits at both Indiana (3/6) and Youngstown State (4/11)...scored two runs with a pair of hits against Detroit in the Horizon League Championship (5/26).
2003 - Freshman Season
Went 2-9 in 14 appearances with an 8.39 ERA...also hit .212 in 17 games as a third baseman...went six innings against Chicago State (4/13), allowing one run and a walk while striking out six for his first collegiate win...scored a pair of runs and collected two hits against Morehead State (3/15)
High School
Set 23 school records, including career hits, runs scored, wins and strikeouts...three-time all league honoree...team captain his senior season and MVP three years...went 5-2 as a pitcher his senior year, recording a 1.05 ERA over 40 innings while striking out 62...batted .408 as a position player, tallying 24 runs and a .673 slugging percentage...a four year letterman as a pitcher, second baseman, shortstop and outfielder...team went 13-4 his senior year, finishing first and going undefeated in the league...also lettered three years in soccer and one in football...soccer team finished first in the conference his senior year.
