Matt Kaltenbach joins the Cleveland State coaching staff as a student assistant after concluding his four-year career as a starting pitcher with the Vikings. He will mainly work with the Viking pitchers while assisting in the day-to-day operations of the program. Kaltenbach finished his four-year career ranked second all-time with 343.2 innings pitched and third with 257 strikeouts. A work-horse right-hander, he logged 104.0 inning as a senior and 101.2 as a sophomore, the third and fourth highest single season totals in school history. Kaltenbach was named to the Horizon League All-Tournament Team in 2003 after picking up a pair of wins over Detroit and Youngstown State in the Horizon League Championship.
The following year, he pitched the Vikings to wins over eighth-ranked Notre Dame and Big Ten-power Ohio State. A former member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, Kaltenbach was presented with the Luke Easter-Wahoo Club Scholarship his sophomore season and was awarded the James Rodriguez Endowment his senior year. A 2001 graduate of Stow High School, Kaltenbach was a three-year letterwinner and posted a 6-4 record and 1.15 ERA his senior season. Kaltenbach is set to graduate in May with a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. He resides in Lakewood, Ohio. |
