Drew Saylor enters his first year as a collegiate baseball coach, after playing professionally and collegiately for the past seven years. This past summer, Saylor was a member of the Lake Erie Crushers a Frontier League expansion team, where he was the Crushers' everyday second baseman. He hit .302 with 70 runs, 26 doubles, 10 homers and 62 RBI, leading the Crushers to a Frontier League title. Following his collegiate career, Saylor was a 13th round draft pick by the Florida Marlins, playing in the New York-Penn League in 2006. He joined the Houston Astros organization in 2007 in the Appalachian League before playing for the Chillicothe Paints in the Frontier League during the 2008 season. Saylor began his college career at Cincinnati where he was an everyday infielder from 2002 through 2005. He transferred to Kent State where he went on to earn first team All-League honors in 2006 when he won the conference batting title. He was also a first team All-American selection by Louisville Slugger and Collegiate Baseball Magazine, as well as a semi-finalist for the Brookes Wallace Award. Saylor graduated from Kent State with a Bachelor of Science degree in Educational Studies in December of 2008. |
