DAYTON, Ohio - A strong pitching performance by a pair of Cleveland State pitchers went for naught as Wright State held the Vikings to one run in topping CSU, 7-1, on Saturday afternoon. The second contest of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to weather and moved to Sunday (March 26) to follow the already slated 1:00 p.m. contest.
The Vikings (1-12, 0-1 Horizon League) tallied their lone run in the fourth on an RBI double by freshman Michael Babin. At that point, however, CSU still trailed Wright State (9-8, 2-2 HL) by a 3-1 score after the Raiders struck for three hits and an error in the third inning.
Wright State added four more in the eighth to put the game away late. The Vikings had their chances at the plate, stranding eight runners on base.
Sophomore right-hander Nathan Schaefer put up a strong performance in the starting role for the Vikings, going 7.1 innings while giving up six hits and one walk. Junior Brandon Hewitt went the final two-thirds, giving up a hit.
Josh Geric boosted his team-leading average to .379 with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate.
