AKRON, Ohio - Cleveland State led for most of the game, but four Akron runs in the bottom of the eighth were the difference in a 6-3 Viking loss on Wednesday afternoon at Lee Jackson Field.

Sophomore Dylan Henry (0-2) cruised through most of the game with just two mistakes early, allowing solo home runs to Kurt Davidson in the first and Matt Roberts in the fourth. He had allowed just three hits over seven innings before finding trouble in the eighth. Two Zips walked and Davidson cracked an RBI double to left to tie the game at 3-3 before Henry was chased with two runners still on base.

Akron (11-6) would add three more runs to provide the final margin.

"We missed some opportunities on offense," head coach Kevin Kocks said. "Dylan made some adjustments and pitched a great ballgame. But again, we just need to do all the little things the right way."

Senior Rich Ranells had two hits, walked twice and scored twice to lead the Vikings, while junior Wallace Richardson and sophomore Matt Madrid added two hits apiece.

Roberts went 2-for-3 with three RBI to lead the Zips.

Trailing 1-0 in the top of the second, CSU got a sac fly from sophomore Ryan Baechel that scored Ranells, who doubled earlier in the inning, to tie the game at 1-1.

In the fourth, Ranells walked and advanced to second on a Marc Sikora groundout before stealing third with Baechel batting. A throwing error by catcher Jeremy Goldizen on the play allowed Ranells to score to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead.

After Roberts' homer in the fourth tied the game at 2-2, the Vikings answered once again. With two outs, Madrid and Richardson hit back-to-back singles, setting the stage for junior Bobby Cash to drive in Madrid with a single put the Vikings back on top.

For the second time in as many days, CSU lost despite getting more hits than its opponent. The Vikings had three more hits (9-6) than Akron after out-hitting Kent State 15-14 on Tuesday.

The Vikings (3-19) will play a three-game series at Butler beginning at on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
