CLEVELAND, Ohio - For the second straight year, Cleveland State senior lefty Josh Hungerman was selected by the Colorado Rockies in the Major League Baseball draft.

Unlike last year, however, Hungerman was selected 33 rounds earlier as the Rockies chose Hungerman in the 17th round with the 511th overall pick.

A year ago, Hungerman was chosen in the 50th round with the 1,499th pick.

This year's draft is the third straight year that a CSU left-handed pitcher has been selected, as Hungerman was taken last season and Stephen Procner was drafted in the 28th round by the Baltimore Orioles in 2007.

"I am extremely happy for Josh and his family," head coach Kevin Kocks said. "He was selected in the late rounds last year and came back this year to improve his stock. He worked very hard on the mound to improve and was able to climb in this year's draft. We wish him nothing but success in the future."

Hungerman, a native of Pittsburgh, Pa., was CSU's No. 1 pitcher in each of the last two seasons. He went 5-6 with a 4.60 ERA this season, leading the Horizon League with 91 strikeouts in 88 innings of work. He started 13 games and fired one complete game.

A first team All-Horizon League pick as a designated hitter this season, Hungerman also hit .345 with 11 doubles, 11 homers and 50 RBI, leading the team in both home runs and runs batted in.

A three-time Horizon League Pitcher of the Week over the last two seasons, Hungerman finished his career with a 12-27 mark, a 5.83 ERA and 246 strikeouts.
