Four members of the Cleveland State baseball team have been honored this summer by earning All-Star selections in their respective summer leagues. Juniors Tyler Wynn and Alex Johnson were both selected to the 2010 Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League All-Stars Blue Team, while seniors Tom Carter and Travis Miller were selected as a member and alternate, respectively, for the 2010 Eastern All-Star Team in the Southern Collegiate League. Wynn has led the Licking Co. Settlers to a league best record of 18-8. He is second in the league with 23 RBIs to go along with five home runs, which are tied for the second most in the league. Wynn has started all 25 games, compiling 19 runs, 30 hits and seven doubles, all totals tying for sixth in the league. He is hitting .303 and has the sixth best slugging percentage at .545. Johnson is hitting .293 with 16 runs and 29 hits while leading the Lake Erie Monarchs to a 13-13-1 record. He has played in 27 games, starting 26, and has stolen eight bases in 10 attempts. Johnson is tied for second in the league with nine doubles and ranks fourth in home runs with three. "We've been playing really well against some of the best competition from around the country," Wynn said. "This speaks well for our university and AJ and I are proud to support Cleveland State." In the Southern Collegiate League, Miller and Carter have led the Carolina Stingers to an 18-17 record. Carter leads the team in batting average (.371) and slugging percentage (.474), and is second on the team in hits (36), doubles (8) and RBIs (20). He also is third on the team with 16 runs scored. Miller, who was selected as an alternate for the All-Star team, leads the team with three saves. He has struck out 14 and posted the third best ERA on the team at 2.12. He is 0-1 with 10 appearances on the mound.
Both the All-Star Blue vs. All-Star Red game in the Great Lakes Collegiate League and the SCBL East Division vs. SCBL West Division game in the Southern Collegiate Baseball League will take place on Wednesday, July 14. Spartanburg, S.C. will play host to the SCBL All-Star game while the location for the GLSCL All-Star game has yet to be announced. |
