Baseball: A Minor Update on Procner and Kerins

Sept. 3, 2008

Contact: Greg Murphy

Wanted to give a brief update on a couple of former CSU baseball players who are currently playing minor league baseball.

Left-handed pitcher Stephen Procner is concluding his second season in the Baltimore Orioles organization. After spending last season in Bluefield, W. Va., Procner has been playing this season with the Aberdeen Ironbirds, the Orioles short season Class A affiliate.

He has gone 0-2, but has a 4.63 earned run average and 22 strikeouts in 35 innings of work.

In addition, former Viking Alex Kerins is also making headlines, playing for the Gateway (Ill.) Grizzlies in the Frontier League. Kerins, who earned first team All-Horizon League honors in his lone season at CSU (2008), is batting .272 in 42 games with 19 runs scored, nine doubles, four home runs and 25 runs batted in.

Both players will conclude their seasons with their respective teams in the next week.
