LORAIN, Ohio - Senior Brad Buell hit a two-run, two out single in the top of the 11th to send the Green team to a 2-0 victory over the White team in the opening game of the 2008 Cleveland State Fall World Series. Junior Jimmy Cowhy picked up the win with 3 innings of scoreless relief, while senior Drew Fronczek took the loss in 4 2/3 innings of relief. White Team starter Brian Long worked 5 2/3 scoreless innings, giving up three hits and three walks along with four strikeouts. Dylan Henry started for the Green and pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up four hits, two walks and posted four strikeouts. Henry worked out of a bases loaded, no out jam in the bottom of the seventh by inducing a double-play groundball back to the mound, followed by a strikeout to end the inning. Sophomore Solomon Haberkost followed Henry with one scoreless inning before Cowhy came on to earn the victory. Cowhy only gave up one hit and no walks with two strikeouts in his three innings. Freshman Ryan Adams finished the top of the 11th for Fronczek, striking out the only hitter he faced following Buell's game winning single. The Green team was paced offensively by Buell with two hits, and senior Jon Foco who added two hits, including a double. Sophomore Tom Carter had two singles, junior Ryan Franks added a double and single, and junior Josh Federico also had a double for the White team.
The two teams meet Friday, November 7th at 5:00 p.m. at Pipe Yard Stadium with the visiting Green team sending senior Josh Hungerman to the mound against sophomore Josh Raggi. |
