AVON, Ohio - The Grey team rode a 17-hit outburst to an 18-3 win in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader to bounce back from a 10-4 loss in game three of the CSU Fall World Series.
The Green squad took a 4-1 lead in the third inning of the first game after back-to-back errors to open the inning were followed by a two-run single from senior Ryan Franks. A bases-loaded walk to freshman Brent Casto and a sacrifice fly by fellow freshman Vince Marquard finished the scoring in the third.
Freshman Dylan Schwegler had two singles with two runs scored, while freshman Alex Gnezda scored three runs to help the offensive cause. Sophomore Tom Carter had a single and triple along with two runs scored, junior Josh Lowe added two doubles and senior Kyle Shaffer and sophomore Jason Haditsch also had doubles for the Grey squad, which outhit the Green team 10-8 in the loss.
In game two, six players had at least two hits and all but one starter had a hit and scored at least one run for the Grey squad.
Senior Kyle Shaffer had two doubles, a single and two RBI, junior Josh Lowe had a double and two singles, sophomore Jason Haditsch had a double, single and four RBI, freshman Jesse Wilson belted a double and homerun to go with four RBI and sophomore Alex Johnson added a two-run homerun to the output.
Sunday's game five promises a freshman matchup between Kris Hall for the Green team going against either Brandon Cooper or Pat Shedlock for the Grey squad. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon.
