Vikings Open Home Slate Versus Edinboro

CLEVELAND -- Cleveland State will take to the Wolstein Center floor for its regular season opener on Saturday (Nov. 9) when it hosts Edinboro at 3:30 p.m. The Vikings will celebrate the home opener with Fan Appreciation Day and fans will be admitted free of charge to the game.

Tickets will be available while supplies last and must be claimed in advance online. All seats will be general admission, but season ticket holder seats will be reserved. 

There will be $1 hot dogs, $2 draft beers and free popcorn available courtesy of Cleveland State Hospitality, while children can enjoy a KidZone. An autograph session featuring the entire Cleveland State team will be held following the conclusion of the game. 

Additionally, fans can park for free in Cleveland State's South Garage adjacent to the Wolstein Center courtesy of Cleveland State Parking Services.

The game will serve as the home debut for first-year head coach Dennis Gates as he and the Vikings look for their first victory of the 2019-20 season.

Cleveland State opened the season on Nov. 5 at Minnesota where the Vikings dropped an 85-50 decision to the Golden Gophers in Williams Arena. Freshman Hugo Ferreira poured in 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor to lead the Vikings in scoring in the season opener.

The Vikings, who feature the fifth-most newcomers in Division I, also received eight points from senior Kasheem Thomas and five points and a team-high seven rebounds from sophomore Tre Gomillion.

Deante Johnson added four points, six rebounds, four assists and a blocked shot, while Franklyn Penn Jr. and Daylen Williams each finished with five points for the Vikings.

Cleveland State shot 40.7 percent from the floor in the second half and made its final eight free throw attempts of the game to finish with an 81.8 percent mark from the charity stripe.

Edinboro, an NCAA Division II member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, opens it season on Nov. 8 when it hosts Thiel. The Fighting Scots finished the 2018-19 season with a 9-17 overall record.

This will mark the 14th career meeting between the two teams with Edinboro holding an 8-5 lead in the all-time series, but the teams have not met since the 1967-68 season.
