The continued development of Luke Murphy will be an important factor in the success of the Vikings this season. A post player who has the ball-handling and shooting ability to play along the perimeter, he fits in well to the Gary Waters' system, giving CSU a potential mismatch at both ends of the floor.
2005-06 SEASON:
Key member of the inside playing rotation starting seven of the 25 games that he played in, averaging 8.9 minutes a game.
Ranked 14th in the league in blocks (15).
Made six of his nine three-point attempts (.667).
Missed the Butler (2/8/06) & UW-Milwaukee (2/11/06) games with a knee injury.
Came off the bench to score seven points with three rebounds in 12 minutes at UW-Green Bay (1/21/06).
Started the last five games in December, averaging 6.0 points and 3.8 rebounds, shooting .647 from the field (11-17).
Scored a career-high 11 points vs. John Carroll (12/22/05), blocking six shots, the fourth-highest single game total in CSU history.
Made his first start of the season vs. Albany (12/10/05), scoring six points with a career-high nine rebounds.
Bothered by a concussion suffered in scrimmage vs. Duquesne but came back to play six minutes vs. Florida A&M (11/19/05).
CLEVELAND STATE CAREER:
Redshirted during the 2004-05 season.
Started six games at forward as a true freshman in 2003-04.
Struggled from three-point range, missing 16 of his last 19 attempts after opening the year by making eight of his first 15 attempts (.533).
Posted five points and four rebounds vs. Detroit (3/2/04) in the Horizon League Tourney.
Scored six points, on three-for-three shooting, with three rebounds at UW-Milwaukee (2/28/04).
Scored a freshman season high 10 points at UIC (1/17/04).
Tallied seven points with four rebounds vs. Georgia Southern (12/29/03).
Grabbed four rebounds with a blocked shot in six minutes vs. Central State (11/22/03).
PRE-CLEVELAND STATE:
Voted the team most valuable player as a senior at Phoebus High, playing for coach Mark Casseri.
Averaged 14.8 points, 8.8 rebounds and 5.0 blocks per game as a senior, shooting 72 percent from the floor.
Played in the Northside Peninsula All-Star contest.
Honorable mention all-league and team most improved player as a junior.
Lettered three times in basketball and once in baseball.
Played freshman season at Boone High in Boone, Iowa.
