Recap | Final Stats | Notes
Cleveland State Head Coach Gary Waters: "We didn't shoot as well as we can. Trevon shot the lights out from three and has been shooting it well and I expect that to happen throughout the year. He still has a long way to come, but he has a great attitude and when you have a good attitude, good things will come to you. He is going to turn out to be a jewel because he plays defense like I want to." "Nigel (Ajere) is a hard guy to handle inside. He is a different player inside, but has a lot of other things to learn. We just have to take it step by step." "I said that you can't worry about this team in November and December. They have the ability to be 10 times better in January. This was a good test for us because they pressured us and did some things. We have to get better at handling the ball. We rebounded the ball well and I think we are going to have a good inside-outside combination." "Our posts have to do a better job of forcing the big guy off the position and our guards have to do a better job at dropping down and helping out. This is a young group and they are trying to do things and show things. They were a little nervous, but once they got that out of their system, they were pretty good." "I'm not concerned about our bigs or our shooting, but we have to do a better job of handling the ball." Cleveland State's Trevon Harmon: "My biggest thing is that I have to be more consistent this year because I am taking on a different role. I have been coming in early and getting up shots trying to improve my jumper and it's coming a long, long way."
Cleveland State's Jeremy Montgomery: "I have a bigger role on my shoulders as a veteran and have to come out and play defense. All the rest will fall into place." Cleveland State's Norris Cole: "This is a young group, but we have a lot of tools and as the season progresses, I think you will see that progress and that we have the potential to see a good team. We are inexperienced at some positions, but we are going to keep working at it. We have to keep working on our defense, but we gave up way to many points in the paint, but it's not all on the big guys. John Carroll Head Coach Mike Moran: "There were some kids who really stepped up for them. One thing they are not known for us not having a great perimeter game. But if anything, they looked pretty comfortable out there and hit open shots tonight." "We can play the style of play we want. We don't have to worry about trying to keep the score close or figure out a way to beat Cleveland State. We are gearing everything toward our schedule and this allows us to do so. It's a neat dress rehearsal for us. We made them work on different phases of their game that they probably don't get to do in practice." |
