INDIANAPOLIS -- Cleveland State freshman guard Bryn Forbes (Lansing, Mich./Sexton) has been named the Horizon League Newcomer of the Week for the week of Jan. 7-13. The award is the second of the season for Forbes. Cleveland State (10-8, 2-2 HL) started the week with a 60-50 win over visiting UIC before falling at Wright State, 69-53. The Vikings rebounded with a 74-62 victory against Detroit on Saturday, knocking the Titans from the unbeaten ranks in the league. Inserted into Cleveland State's starting lineup against UIC on Monday (Jan. 7), Forbes averaged 16.7 ppg over three games, starting his week with 14 points in the win over UIC and leading the Vikings with 15 at Wright State. However, the freshman saved his finest performance for Saturday, when he went 5-of-7 from three-point range en route to 21 points in CSU's win over the previously unbeaten Titans. Forbes' five three-pointers tied the Cleveland State freshman record, while he set a new career-high with eight rebounds. In conference play, Forbes sits in seventh with 42.9-percent three-point mark and his 2.3 three-pointers per game ranks sixth. He is tied for the team lead and ranks 17th in the league in scoring (11.0). Cleveland State will hit the road on its Wisconsin swing this week, meeting Milwaukee (4-13, 0-3 Horizon) at 8:00 p.m. EST on Thursday, Jan. 17, before heading to Green Bay (8-9, 2-2 Horizon) for the Horizon League Network Game of the Week on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 2:00 p.m. EST. The game will be carried throughout the Midwest and on ESPN Full Court/ESPN3.
