CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State senior men's golfer Michael Balcar (Toledo, Ohio) has qualified for the 114th U.S. Amateur after winning a four-man playoff on Monday at the 36 hole qualifier at Rattlesnake Ridge G.C. in Sunbury, Ohio.
The U.S. Amateur will be played at The Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Ga., from Aug. 11-17.
Balcar carded a 36 hole total of three-under-par total of 141 over 36 holes, putting him in a playoff with four others for the final qualifying spot. Balcar birdied the first playoff hole to earn the spot.
Balcar recently concluded his junior year at CSU, earning first team All-Horizon League honors for the second straight season after ranking seventh in the league with a 74.7 scoring average. He helped CSU win the league championship, earning a spot on the all-tournament team with a tie for fifth place individually.
Balcar is the second Viking to qualify for the U.S. Amateur in as many years, joining Andrew Bailey who qualified last year.
