CLEVELAND, Ohio - Former Cleveland State golfer Michael Balcar won the U.S. Amateur Qualifier that concluded on Tuesday morning at the Dayton C.C. to qualify for the 115th U.S. Amateur Championship.
The 2015 U.S. Amateur will be played from Aug. 17-23 at the Olympia Fields C.C. in Olympia Fields, Ill.
Balcar carded a 36-hole total of one-under-par 139 to win the qualifier by one shot. He opened with a four-under-par 66 that included six birdies and two bogies and shot a second round 73.
Balcar recently concluded his CSU career, earning first team All-Horizon League honors for the third straight season after ranking second in the league with a 73.2 scoring average. Balcar helped lead the Vikings to the Horizon League Championship, finishing as the runner-up as an individual in a playoff.
He concluded his career ranked fourth in CSU history with a 74.7 scoring average.
It is the second straight year that Balcar has qualified for the U.S. Amateur. Last year, Balcar won a four-man playoff for the final qualifying spot at at Rattlesnake Ridge G.C. in Sunbury, Ohio.
