AVON, Ohio - Despite a continuous drizzle and temperatures hovering in the low 40s, the Cleveland State Invitational got underway Friday afternoon at Red Tail Golf Club. The weather forced the cancellation of the morning round, but the 10 men's teams and three women's teams were able to complete 18 holes in the afternoon. The Viking men stand in third place heading into tomorrow's final round, while sophomore Kristen Obush (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) is just a shot out of the lead in the women's competition.

"I thought we played really well under some brutal conditions," CSU head coach Tom Porten said. "The men are just a shot out of second and Kristen is in the hunt for medallist honors."

On the men's side, Oakland fired a 297 to lead Dayton by 13 shots, with the Vikings trailing the Flyers by a single stroke. Freshman Ben Grandy (Southgate, Mich./Gabriel Richard) led CSU with a 75 and sits in a fifth-place tie. Canisius' Rob Krajewski leads the field with a 71 -- the only under-par round of the day.

Oakland also leads the women's competition, shooting a 339 to outdistance both Butler (359) and Cleveland State (383). Oakland's Patricia Ellsworth shot an 80 -- just one stroke better than Obush for the afternoon's top round.

Play concludes tomorrow with a single round beginning at 8:30 a.m.
