FAIRBORN, Ohio - Cleveland State recovered from its struggles in the morning to earn a second-place finish at the Norm Bullock Collegiate Classic on Monday. The Vikings came in six shots behind Morehead State, who out-distanced the 12-team field at the par 72, 7,007 yard Green Country Club. Morehead State finished the 54-hole event at 898, while CSU was at 904 and Youngstown State rounded out the top three at 909. The finish was the best for the Vikings since they came in second at their own CSU Invitational on April 22, 2003. Eastern Illinois' Dustin Sloat finished his wire-to-wire stay atop the leaderboard, earning medalist honors with a two-over 218. He narrowly edged Dayton's Rob Chappell, who carded a 219, and Youngstown State's Ryan Stocke who was in third at 220. Doug Barber finished in a tie for eighth at 10-over 206 after matching the low score in the afternoon with a 72. Mike Rutgers wound up a shot behind Barber in 10th place. "We struggled in the morning, but seemed to get things together on the front nine in the afternoon," CSU head coach Tom Porten said. "Unfortunately, we gave too many shots away down the stretch. I'm a little frustrated, but at the same time we still managed to beat the other three league schools in the tournament." Cleveland State is next in action on April 23-24 when it travels to Lebanon, Ohio for the Dayton Invitational.
