Contact: Alan Ashby
April 12, 2005 AVON, Ohio - Playing in cool, blustery conditions for the second straight day, Cleveland State slipped to third place in the final round of the Joe Cole/CSU Invitational at Red Tail Golf Club. The Vikings entered Tuesday's round trailing Detroit by just four shots, but posted a 333 while the Titans and Oakland both carded a 314. Detroit claimed the team title with a 54-hole total of 941, while Oakland (950) leapfrogged CSU (964) for second place. On the strength of his tournament-low opening round 69, Oakland's Brian Stuard led from wire-to-wire to claim medalist honors at 221 -- nine shots clear of Detroit's Sean Hutchison and Youngstown State's Ross Beal. Mike Rutgers paced the Vikings with a 235 (74-80-81) to finish in fifth, while Bill Schaefer tied for sixth at 238 (80-77-81) playing as an individual. Cleveland State is in action again on April 16-17 when the Vikings take part in the First Energy Intercollegiate at Firestone Country Club's North Course in Akron.
