Vikings Finish Fifth At Dayton Spring Invitational

Contact: Alan Ashby Final Results in PDF Format KETTERING, Ohio - Despite playing a man down due to an injury, Cleveland State jumped up three spots to finish in a tie for fifth at Dayton Spring Invitational. Sophomore Jake Scott led the Vikings with his fourth top 10 finish of the year, while UW-Green Bay maintained its comfortable advantage to win the 12-team event at the par 71, 7,067 yard NCR South Course. The Phoenix, which led by 10 strokes after Monday's 36 holes, ended up defeating runner-up Bowling Green by 11 shots (925-936). The host Flyers finished in third at 939, Youngstown State was fourth at 943, while CSU and Wright State tied for fifth at 947. Bowling Green's John Powers matched the low round of the day with a 71 to win medalist honors at 226 (+13). Canisius' Drew Creighton and Youngstown State's Ryan Stocke were just a stroke back in a tie for second. After winning his first career tournament earlier in the month, Scott closed with a 74 to finish alone in seventh at 231. Senior Ben Grandy was five shots farther back in a tie for 12th -- his fifth consecutive top 15 finish. The Vikings once again had to play without freshman Kyle Cobb, who injured himself on the second hole of the opening round. "The guys really put together a solid round today in some tough conditions," CSU head coach Brian Varsey said. "While we probably wouldn't have won the tournament without Kyle's injury, I certainly think we would have had a good shot a finishing in the top three."
Cleveland State closes out the regular season on Saturday and Sunday (April 28-29) at the First Energy Intercollegiate at the Firestone Country Club North Course in Akron. Team Results Individual Leaders Cleveland State Individuals
