Vikings Finish Fourth at John Piper Intercollegiate

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Cleveland State shot a final round 302 on Tuesday morning and finished fourth among 15 teams at the John Piper Intercollegiate hosted by Bowling Green at Stone Ridge Golf Club (Sept. 10-11). "We battled some tough conditions with the wind and rain today, but we did what we had to do," head coach Steve Weir said. "Overall, I am pleased with the way we started the season, but we are not satisfied. We are going to continue to work hard and improve on the areas that need improving." Eastern Kentucky (844) easily outdistanced second place Bowling Green (858) by 14 shots, while Green Bay finished third at 879. Ball State rounded out the top five (890). The Vikings finished ahead of league schools Butler, Wright State and Youngstown State. CSU junior Jake Scott was the top Viking finisher as he placed ninth overall with rounds of 70-75-72 (217). Freshman Kent Monas recorded a top-20 finish in his first collegiate event, finishing tied for 17th at 222 (74-72-76). Jesse Massie of Eastern Kentucky earned medalist honors by one shot over teammate Phillip Hendrickson. Massie fired rounds of 70-66-71 (207), while Hendrickson finished at 208 (69-67-72).
