CHARDON, Ohio - Trailing by 14 stroke heading into Tuesday's final round, Louisville put together a two-under par 282 to edge TCU by a single shot at the 2005 Cleveland State Invitational presented by Fairmount Minerals. Cleveland State finished 16th in the preview for the 2006 NCAA Central Regional which was held at Sand Ridge Golf Club. Louisville carded a three-round total of 871, while second round leader TCU struggled in the final round to a 298. Kent State wound up in third place at 874. Kansas' Gary Woodling completed his wire-to-wire run at the top of the individual standings with a final round 69. Woodling finished at 11-under par (202), three shots clear of Kansas State's Ben Kern (205). The pair were the only golfers in the 90-player field to finish under par. Mike Rutgers finished in a tie for 35th at 11-over par to lead CSU. Steve Weir checked in at 228 (54th), while Doug Barber finished at 231 (T-60th). The Vikings stood in third after an opening round 291, but struggled over the final 36 holes. "I thought this was a great learning experience for our players," CSU head coach Tom Porten said. "It opened their eyes a little to the level of golf that has to be played over all three rounds in order to be successful at this level. While I'm disappointed in the final outcome, I think it will only serve to help us down the road." Cleveland State is in action again on Sept. 19-20 when the Vikings travel to Lawrence, Kan. for the Kansas Invitational.
