Vikings Place 12th at John Piper Intercollegiate

Bowling Green, Ohio - The Cleveland State men's golf team shot a final round of 304 at the BGSU John Piper Intercollegiate Tuesday to place 12th overall with a score of 315-308-304---927. The Vikings finished only six strokes behind Horizon League rival Youngstown State (313-317-291---921) at the par-72 Stone Ridge Golf Club. Senior Billy Houle (Joliette, Quebec/Georges Vanier) paced the Vikings, shooting a 78 in the final round to card a 74-74-78---226 for 22nd place. Freshman Mike Rutgers (Kingsville, Ontario/Cardinal Carter) trailed Houle by two shots, posting an 82 72-74---228 for a 25th-place tie in his first tournament with the team. Oakland dominated the tournament from the start, carding a 292-282-296---870 to finish 14 strokes ahead of runner-up Bowling Green. Colin Christie of Butler edged out Brian Stuard of Oakland by one shot to take individual medalist honors with a 70-72-71---213. Cleveland State will head to Indianapolis for the Butler Invitational beginning Monday, Sept. 22.
