LAWRENCE, Kan. - After opening with a one-over par 289, Cleveland State slipped to a 299 in the second round and sits in 12th place (588) after 36 holes on Monday at the Kansas Invitational. The host Jayhawks lead the 17-team field at 563 (286-277) at the 7,092 yard, par 72 Alvamar Golf Course. Tulsa is just two shots out of the lead at 565, while Western Kentucky is seven shots back (570) in third place. Despite their 12-place standing, the Vikings are within five shots of seventh place in the closely-bunched field. Kansas' Gary Woodland stands alone in first at nine-under par after carding rounds of 69-66 (135). He leads Tulsa's Ryan Henry and Western Kentucky's Robby Shaw by two strokes. CSU freshman Jake Scott paced the team at one-over with consistent rounds of 73-72 (145). Senior Steve Weir is tied for 40th at 146 (69-77). Woodland is looking to claim his second straight medalist honor after winning the CSU Invitational last week at Sand Ridge Golf Club with an 11-under par (202). "This is the second week in a row that we've struggled to start the afternoon round," CSU head coach Tom Porten said. "Luckily, today the stoppage in play [due to weather] helped us regroup. I expect good things from this group in the final round." The tournament concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday. Team Scores:
