WEST CHICAGO, Ill. - Cleveland State shot a final round 315 in blustery conditions to finish fifth at the John Dallio Memorial Invitational hosted by DePaul. The Vikings were just a shot out of third at 891 as Southern Illinois claimed the title at the 6,968-yard, par 72 Prairie Landing Golf Club with a 54-hole total of 879. CSU sophomore Mike Rutgers (Kingsville, Ontario/Cardinal Carter) finished fourth after holding the 36-hole lead. "The wind was really blowing hard from the start and the scores really ballooned today," CSU head coach Tom Porten said. "It was a good learning experience and I am pleased with how we performed overall. The best part is that we continue to do well in our head-to-head meetings with league schools." Notre Dame's Tom Balderston claimed medalist honors with a three-under 213, two shots ahead of Evansville's Shawn Marshall. A day after shooting a school record 66, Rutgers closed with an 80 to finish at 217. Sophomore Ben Grandy (Southgate, Mich./Gabriel Richard) tied for 17th at 76. Cleveland State hits the links again on Oct. 4-5 when the Vikings travel to Williamsburg, Va. for the William & Mary Joe Agee Invitational. Team Scores: CSU Individual Scores:
