Chicago - The Cleveland State men's golf team carded a three-round score of 914 (303-297-314) at the De Paul Blue Demon Invitational to finish in sixth place overall. The Vikings ended up only one stroke behind fifth-place Wisconsin-Green Bay (306-298-309---913) at Prairie Landing Golf Club.

Senior Mike Bognar (Seven Hills, Ohio/Normandy) paced the team with a score of 221 (71-76-74), placing him in a sixth-place tie. Senior Billy Houle (Joliette, Quebec/Georges Vanier) trailed Bognar in the standings, posting a three-round total of 227 (75-74-78). Freshmen Mike Rutgers (Kingsville, Ontario/Cardinal Carter) and Ben Grandy (Southgate, Mich./Gabriel Richard) finished one stroke apart, with Rutgers carding a 233 (79-79-75) and Grandy a 234 (78-69-87).

Southern Illinois (290-294-290---874) finished first as a team, out pacing runner-up Tennessee-Chattanooga (300-289-303---892) by 18 strokes. The Salukis were led by individual medalist Brian Norman, who recorded a final score of 210 (69-69-72).

"Cold and windy pretty much summed up the tournament," remarked CSU head coach Tom Porten. "It ended up being a learning experience for the young players.

"We're taking little steps in the right direction, but I don't think we're playing as good as we are capable of."

The Vikings' are in action again on October 4-5 when they take part in the Earl Yestingsmeier Invitational, hosted by Ball State.
