CHARDON, Ohio - Cleveland State shot a final round 303 and finished in third place at the 54-hole 2008 CSU Telich Sun Life Financial Invitational that concluded on Tuesday at the par-72, 7,215-yard Sand Ridge G.C. The Vikings entered the day two shots behind co-leaders South Dakota State and Longwood, but could not make up any ground on a day that saw wet and rainy conditions. "We got off to a slow start and couldn't recover," head coach Steve Weir said. "We battled in the rain, but it was a mental and physical grind out there today. We have a couple weeks off before our final tournament of the fall and we'll have to work on a few things between now and than." SDSU fired a final round 293 to win the team title with a three-round total of 870 (287-290-293). The Jackrabbits outdistanced second place Longwood (292-285-300) by seven shots (877). South Dakota State also had the top two individuals with Geoff Mead earning medalist honors with rounds of 73-68-71 (212) and Trent Peterson finishing as the runner-up. Peterson carded a 213 total with rounds of 67-72-74. CSU's Jake Scott was third with rounds of 70-68-76 (214). Kent Monas also finished in the top-10, tying for ninth place at 220 (76-69-75). The Vikings will be out of action until Oct. 20-21 when CSU concludes its fall slate at the 54-hole Austin Peay Invitational. TEAM RESULTS CSU RESULTS CSU PLAYERS AS INDIVIDUALS |
