BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - Cleveland State carded a final round 301 and tied for second place (881) with Northern Illinois at the Belmont Fall Shootout on Tuesday at the par-72, 7,043-yard Nashville Golf and Athletic Club.

Akron claimed a 10-shot victory, while the Vikings and Northern Illinois held off Campbell and Florida Gulf Coast by one shot. The duo tied for fourth at 882.

"Earning second place to end the fall season is a great accomplishment," head coach Steve Weir said. "We got off to a rough start today, but really battled back well to get back to second.

"The team is really motivated and is going to work hard to prepare for the spring season," Weir continued. "We know that we can compete in any tournament we are playing in, but now we have to learn how to close."

Kyle Cobb led the Vikings with a ninth place finish (218), while Jake Scott was one shot back as he tied for 13th.

Austin Peay's Grant Leaver fired rounds of 72-70-73 (215) to claim medalist honors in a playoff over Fredric Sundberg of Campbell, Nathan Sutherland of Miami (OH) and Kyle Henderson of Florida Gulf Coast.

The event concludes CSU's fall season. They will return to action in the spring, but the schedule has not yet been announced.
