Steve Weir Named Horizon League Golfer Of The Week

Contact: Alan Ashby

April 5, 2006

CLEVELAND - Two days after besting the school record by three strokes, senior Steve Weir has been named the Horizon League Golfer of the Week. Weir's 63 in the second round of the Belmont Intercollegiate on Monday is also believed to be the lowest in league history. The honor is the first of the Brunswick native's career.

Current junior Mike Rutgers had previously held the CSU record, posting a 66 at the DePaul John Dallio Memorial Invitational on Sept. 27, 2004.

Weir carded an opening round 72 at the par 71, 6,501 yard Old Natchez Country Club in Nashville, before matching the tournament record in the afternoon to claim the overall lead. He closed with an even par 71 to finish tied at 206 (-7) with Tennessee Tech's Scott Stallings. Stallings went on to earn medalist honors with a birdie on the first playoff hole.

The Vikings are in action again on April 9-10 when they travel to Fairborn, Ohio for the Norm Bullock Classic which is hosted by Wright State.
