Houle Garners Golf Athlete Of The Week Honors

April 21, 2004

Cleveland - After earning medalist honors at the Bullock Collegiate Classic earlier in the week, senior Billy Houle has been named as the Horizon League Golf Athlete of the Week, the league office announced.

Houle recorded his second career tournament win, carding a one-under-par 215 at the Greene Country Club in Fairborn, Ohio. He opened the tournament with a two-under 70 on Sunday (April 18) and added rounds of 71 and 74 on Monday (April 19) to win by three strokes. He currently leads the team with a 76.1 stroke average.

"Billy has been working hard all spring, and it is paying off," head coach Tom Porten said. "It's nice to see him get such a big win. He is playing his best golf at the right time and will have more to come for the league championship."

Houle joins freshman Mike Rutgers as the second Viking to earn the award this season. Rutgers earned the recognition for the week of March 24 after posting a 12th-place 149 (73-76) at the Kingsmill/William & Mary Invitational (3/22-23).

The Vikings will wrap up the 2003-04 season at the Horizon League Championship on April 26-27 at Royal American Golf Links in Galena, Ohio.
