Komsa Named to All-Horizon League Golf Team

May 2, 2002

Cleveland State junior Christian Komsa (Tecumseh, Ontario/E.J.Brennen) has been selected to the 2002 All-Horizon League golf team by a vote of the league coaches.

A business management major, Komsa took top team honors in 11 of the 13 tournaments this year, including a first-place tie at the Cleveland State Intercollegiate last week and a sixth-place finish yesterday in the Horizon League Championship.

On the season, Komsa played in all 13 tournaments, recording top-15 finishes in nine of them while posting a 74.66 stroke-average in 36.5 rounds. He carded low-rounds of 69 on three separate occaisions, including twice in the EDS/Detroit Titans Invitational in September, and earned Golf Co-Athlete of the Week honors on March 26th after he finished five strokes behind the medalist at the Eastern Kentucky Invitational.

Komsa is the second CSU linkster in the last two years to earn all-conference honors. Last year, Craig Hicks earned a spot on the team after posting a 75.88 average on the season.

Wright State junior John Schones was named Player of the Year with a 73.2 stroke average entering the League Championships. Rounding out the All-Horizon League golf team are Colin Christie of Butler, Adam Walicki and Johnny Strawser of Detroit, Brian Berggren of UW-Green Bay, and Jesse Hutchins of Wright State. Ben Weaver of Butler earned Coach of the Year honors.
