CLEVELAND, Ohio - Cleveland State golfers Kellen Erdman and Kent Monas have qualified for the 2009 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship by virtue of being the top two finishers at local qualifying on Monday at Windmill Lakes G.C. in Ravenna, Ohio. The duo will now compete at the U.S. Amateur Public Links from July 13-18 at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla. "This is a great accomplishment for both Kellen and Kent," head coach Steve Weir said. "They both played really well in qualifying and I'm sure they will represent themselves and our program with a lot of class at the championship." Erdman took the first qualifying spot by shooting a five-under-par 135 at the 36-hole qualifier. He opened with 64 and closed with a 71 to win the qualifier. Monas' path to qualify was a little more difficult as he found himself tied with Kent State's John Hahn after 36 holes. Both players birdied the first two playoff holes with Hahn rolling in a 25-footer on the second playoff hole, only to be matches by Monas' 20-footer to send the playoff to a third hole. Monas drained a 10-foot birdie and finally clinched the spot when Hahn could not convert a five-footer for birdie.
