Rutgers, Scott Shoot Matching 71s In Ohio Open First Round

Contact: Alan Ashby

July 25, 2006

LYNDHURST, Ohio - Senior Mike Rutgers and sophomore Jake Scott posted identical scores of 71 in the opening round of the 83rd Ohio Open Championship on Monday (July 24). The scores place the Cleveland State duo in a tie for 35th overall and 3rd among the amateurs.

The field of 225 was split between Acacia Country Club in Lyndhurst -- where both Rutgers and Scott played -- and Little Mountain Country Club in Concord. The two Vikings will head to Little Mountain on Tuesday where 20 of the 34 rounds of par or better were recorded on the first day of play.

Former CSU standout -- and current Sand Ridge Golf Club head professional -- Matt Creech is one of five golfers tied for the lead after carding an opening-round 66.

The field will be cut to low 50 and ties for Wednesday's final round at Little Mountain.
