Former Viking Linkster Matt Creech Honored by Golf Digest

Aug. 28, 2003

Cleveland - Former Cleveland State golfer Matt Creech was listed as the ninth-best teaching professional in Ohio, according to the September issue of Golf Digest.

Creech, the assistant professional at Mayfield Country Club, played for the Vikings from 1998-00 and served as a graduate assistant in 2000-01. During his tenure at CSU, he posted a 76.5 average in 30 tournaments, taking individual medallist honors twice during his senior season.

After graduating from Brush High School, the South Euclid native attended Charleston Southern University where he played golf for two seasons before transferring to CSU in the spring of 1998. He was named conference newcomer of the year in his first season with the Vikings, helping the team to conference championship.

"Matt was always a student of the game and of the swing," commented CSU Head Coach Tom Porten. "It is always an honor for me to have one of my former players go on to the highest level of teaching in the PGA. I couldn't be prouder."
