Event #2 - Kansas Invitational
Date: September 17-18, 2007
Time: All Day
Site: Lawrence, Kan.

THE FIRST TEE: CSU will return to action at the 54-hole Kansas Invitational Monday (Sept. 17) and Tuesday (Sept. 18). The tournament will be contested at the par-72, 7,092-yard Alvamar Golf Club in Lawrence, Kan. Following a Sunday practice round, the Vikings will play 36 holes on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.

LAST TIME OUT: Cleveland State finished fourth at the John Piper Intercollegiate contested Monday and Tuesday (Sept. 10-11) at Sand Ridge Golf Club. CSU opened with rounds of even-par (288) and five-over (293) on Monday before concluding the tournament with a 302 on Tuesday in windy and rainy conditions. Junior Jake Scott was CSU's top finisher as he placed ninth with a three-round total of 217 (70-75-72).

THE HEAD COACH: Steve Weir, a 2006 CSU graduate, is in his first season as the head golf coach after serving as an assistant coach last season. In his lone season of golf for the Vikings (2006), Weir earned all-league honors and was a two-time Horizon League Golfer of the Week. He was instumental in helping the Vikings claim the 2006 Horizon League Championship as he placed 11th overall. In addition, he holds the school-record for lowest round as he carded an eight-under par 63 en route to a runner-up finish at the Belmont Intercollegiate.

SCOTT SIZZLING: Fresh off a runner-up finish at last season's league championship, junior Jake Scott produced a strong summer and used that to propel himself to a ninth place finish at the John Piper Intercollegiate with a one-over-par 217 (70-75-72). Over the summer, Scott qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championships by placing fourth at the 36-hole sectional qualifier and then tied for second at the Greater Cleveland Amateur Championships in mid-August with CSU freshman teammate Kent Monas.

GOING LOW: CSU's first round total of 288 at the John Piper Intercollegiate was its best team round since a 288 in the second round of last season's Morehead State Classic (Oct. 9, 2006).

UP NEXT: The Vikings will return to action when they host the Cleveland State Invitational at Sand Ridge Golf Club on Sept. 24-25.
