CLEVELAND, Ohio - Brendan Byrne (Strongsville, Ohio), a four-year letterwinner and three-time Team MVP at Strongsville H.S., has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Cleveland State men's golf program beginning in the fall of 2010.

Head coach Steve Weir made the announcement on Friday (Nov. 13).

"Brendan is a great kid who will be a tremendous fit for our program," Weir said. "He had a great high school career and has a ton of potential to be a top of the lineup guy for us. I believe that his best days are right ahead of him."

Byrne helped lead the Mustangs to a conference title his senior year, was a state qualifier as a junior, a district qualifier as a junior and senior and a sectional qualifier his final three seasons, playing for head coach Bill Cash.

He led his team to a 14-0 mark as a senior.

The team MVP his final three seasons, Byrne was also the runner-up for conference MVP honors as a sophomore, junior and senior.

He was selected to the Northeast Ohio Golf Coaches Association first team as a junior and senior, winning the sectional title as a junior.

During his sophomore campaign, Byrne set a scoring record with his 36.6 strokes per round.
