Title: Assistant Coach/Goalkeeper Coach
Phone: 687-4810
Experience: Sixth Season at CSU

Amir Kettani enters his sixth season as assistant coach at Cleveland State in 2018. A First Team All-Horizon League goalkeeper in his playing days at CSU, Kettani mentors the Vikings goaltenders while also assisting in other areas of the program.

Kettani helped the Vikings reach the Horizon League Tournament Semifinals in 2017, as Cleveland State won its Tournament quarterfinal match with a 4-0 victory at Wright State, the largest margin of victory by CSU in its Horizon League Tournament history.

Kettani helped the Vikings to an improvement of over 50 places in the RPI from the season prior. Cleveland State played one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation, as its non-conference strength of schedule ranked 15th at the end of the regular season. CSU faced 10 teams among the top 101 in the RPI, the most in the League, as the Vikings faced three top-15 squads and two that advanced to the Elite Eight.

In each of the past four seasons, Kettani has helped the Vikings to a League winning percentage of .500 or better.

Kettani helped mentor Sebastian Kalk to an impressive rookie season in 2016. Kalk led the Horizon League and finished fifth in Division I in save percentage (.848), the best mark by a freshman in the nation. With Kettani’s help, Kalk was among the top 30 in saves per game and led the League in saves within League play. Kettani was a key reason why CSU allowed the fewest goals in the League and finished with one of the top four winning percentages in the League for the fourth time in five seasons.

During the 2015 season, Kettani helped Aleksandar Drobac lead the Horizon League in both goals against average (0.73) and save percenteage (.828). Drobac ranked among the top 20 in Division I in both categories and only got better as the season went along as he allowed two goals over the team's final eight games.

Kettani has previously worked with Alan Kelly, who was the goalie coach for the Irish National Team, and has also worked with Dan Gaspar who was formerly the goalkeeper coach for the Portuguese and Iranian National teams.

He has also been an integral part of the Cleveland Internationals Developmental Academy coaching staff, working as a goalkeeper coach with the U-14, U-16 and U-18 teams. During his coaching tenure, Kettani worked with Charlie Horton, who was a member of Leeds United of the English Championship. Horton also played on the U-23 U.S. National Team.

Kettani played his freshman season at Ashland before transferring to Cleveland State where he lettered from 2002-2004. In 2004, he earned First-Team Horizon League honors after leading the League in saves and was also named team MVP. A co-captain in his days at CSU, Kettani still ranks among the top 10 in career saves for the Vikings despite only having been with the program for three years.
