HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - Cleveland State (0-1) dropped its season-opener by a narrow 3-2 margin this afternoon at Marshall (1-0). The Vikings took a 1-0 lead into the half, but the Thundering Herd stormed back in the second stanza with three unanswered goals.

Senior midfielder Misha Levkov (Richmond Hills, Ontario/Bayview) staked CSU to a 1-0 lead in the 15th minute on an assist from senior forward Marc Royer (Scarborough, Ontario/Pope John Paul II). The Vikings held the lead until Marshall knotted the score in the 50th minute, then watched as the Herd tallied two more goals in the next 15 minutes.

Junior midfielder O.C. Haugen (Hornindal, Norway/Stryn) cut the lead in half when he tucked away a breakaway on an assist from junior forward Adam Musser (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) in the 74th minute. However, the Vikings could not score the equalizer in the final 16 minutes.

Marshall out-shot CSU 22-7 and held a decisive 11-4 edge in corner kicks.

The Vikings are in action again on Tuesday, Sept. 4 when they travel to Robert Morris for a 4:00 p.m. contest.
