Ademolu Hat-Trick Lifts Vikings Over Robert Morris, 3-2
Sept. 3, 2003
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - Stephen Ademolu scored three goals to lift the Vikings to a 3-2 win over Robert Morris in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Vikings raise their record to 1-2 on the season, while Robert Morris falls to 0-2-1. "We're right where we need to be at this point in the season," head coach Pete Curtis said. "If you look at the learning curve after each of the three games we've played so far, we're right on track with the Horizon League opener against Loyola coming up. The team is working very hard for each other right now." Ademolu opened up the scoring in the first half on an assist from Harveer Mann to give CSU a 1-0, a lead they would take into the half. Ademolu picked up his second goal of the game five minutes into the second period, this time on a free kick served from Matteo Zappa. "On the first goal, Harveer played a beautiful through ball behind the last defender, and there was no way the defense was going to catch Stephen, not with his speed," Curtis said. "He went one-on-one against the goalkeeper and got past him and just tapped the ball into the net. On the second goal, Matteo served in a perfect free kick, and Stephen just out-jumped the goalkeeper for the ball." But the Colonials came right back, scoring a pair of goals in under three minutes. Jamie Dodds converted on a penalty kick at the 55:00 minute mark, and Said Ali finished a feed from Russ Zaccarino at 57:38 to tie the game at two, before Ademolu hit the gamewinner just five minutes later, again getting in behind the Robert Morris defense and beating the goalkeeper.
"On all three of the goals, the timing of the passes was excellent," Curtis said. "Stephen's speed and skill allowed him to take full advantage of the balls that were played to him."
Amir Kettani picked up the win in goal for the Vikings, making three saves. The Vikings return to action on Saturday with the Horizon League opener at Loyola. Game time is 2 p.m. Eastern. |
