Soccer Downs Xavier, 2-0
Sept. 14, 2003
BLUE ASH, Ohio - David Carmichael and Stephen Ademolu each scored to give the Vikings their fourth-straight win, as Cleveland State defeated Xavier, 2-0, in Blue Ash, Ohio. The win, the Vikings' fourth straight on the road, extends the road winning streak to four games, the longest streak since the 1981 season. "This was quite a workmanlike effort," head coach Pete Curtis said. "We posed the greater threat in the game offensively, and had we had better luck finishing, we could have scored even more than we did. This was a total team effort, the guys are coming together more as a team, something that takes a lot of time with as many new faces on the roster." Carmichael scored in the 17th minute mark to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. Spencer Lappin dribbled along the endline, and forced Xavier goalkeeper Brian Schaeper to the near post, before finding Carmichael wide open in front of the goal. Ademolu's goal came in the 72nd minute, as he took a similar feed from David Prentice and tapped the ball into the open net past Schaeper. "Our goal today was to come down here and get a win without conceeding any goals, and we did that very efficiently," Curtis said. "Our midfielders did a tremendous job denying space and time to their players, especially in the second half." Amir Kettani made five saves, and Josh Cain had one, to combine for the victory for Cleveland State.
The Vikings will return to southwest Ohio for a Wednesday night match with Cincinnati before opening the home portion of the season on Saturday against UIC.
