Men's Soccer Falls At Notre Dame, 3-1

Sept. 20, 2001

Box Score

Notre Dame, Ind. - Cleveland State (1-5-0) took an early lead last night against Notre Dame (2-2-0), but watched as the Irish rallied to score three unanswered goals en route to a 3-1 victory. The Vikings have been outscored 10-1 this season in the second half.

CSU gained an early advantage when junior Joachim Walker (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay) headed in his first career goal on an assist from junior Matt Milcetich (Ravenna, Ohio/Kent Roosevelt) in the 13th minute. The lead was short-lived however, as sophomore Justin Detter scored in the 29th minute for the Irish.

The score remained tied until the 50th minute when Detter struck again. Junior Erich Braun closed out the scoring in the 80th minute on an assist from Detter.

Notre Dame out-shot CSU 21-9, but senior goalie James Kryger (St. Catherines, Ontario/Governor Simcoe) kept the game close with seven saves.

After six consecutive road games, CSU opens its home slate Saturday (Sept. 22) against St. Bonaventure at 2:00 p.m. at Krenzler Field.
