Box Score

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State men's soccer team (2-7-0, 0-3-0 Horizon League) fell 2-1 to Wright State (4-3-1, 1-1-0 Horizon League) in action this afternoon at Krenzler Field. With the loss, the Vikings are now 2-3 this season in games decided by one goal.

The Raiders took the lead in the 11th minute when sophomore forward Ricky Strong knocked in Winston Marshall's corner kick for his sixth goal of the year. Just under two minutes later, WSU had a chance to double its lead, but Isa Ar-Razi's penalty kick deflected off the right post.

The score remained 1-0 until the 52nd minute when CSU junior forward Joachim Walker (Bay Village, Ohio/Bay) netted his fifth goal in the last four games. Senior goalie James Kryger (St. Catharines, Ontario/Governor Simcoe) sent a long kick to junior forward Adam Musser (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) who headed the ball to Walker. With the WSU goalie closing in, Walker flicked the ball over the keeper and into the left corner of the net.

The Raiders scored the game winner on a penalty kick at the 74:50 mark. Senior defender Brian James cleanly beat Kryger to the right corner for his first goal of the season. WSU missed a chance to put the game away in the 87th minute when Kryger's eighth save of the day stopped a penalty kick by Dan Griest.

CSU is in action again this Wednesday (Oct. 3) when it hosts Pittsburgh at 7:00 p.m. The game is the first of four matches in the ALL Crane Rental Classic Challenge Series.
