No. 22 Ohio State Slips By Men's Soccer, 1-0

Oct. 10, 2001

Box Score

CLEVELAND - The Cleveland State men's soccer team (2-10-0) dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to No. 22 Ohio State (7-2-1) tonight at Krenzler Field. The loss was the fifth the Vikings have suffered by a lone goal. The match was the third of four contests in the ALL Crane Rental Classic Challenge Series.

The game's only goal came in the 25th minute. CSU goalie James Kryger (St. Catharines, Ontario/Governor Simcoe), defender Benny Eck (Ottendorf, Germany/Friedrich-Fischer-Schule) and OSU forward John Cook all arrived at loose ball about 20 yards from the goal at the same time. The ball came free in the ensuing collision and Cook collected it and slotted it in the empty net.

Buckeye goalie Kerry Thompson stopped both Viking shots on goal for his third shutout of the season. Kryger made four saves for CSU.

The Vikings are in action again on Sunday (Oct. 14) when they host Illinois-Chicago in a Horizon League match at Krenzler Field at 2:00 p.m.
