CLEVELAND - Cleveland State senior goalkeeper James Kryger (St. Catharines, Ontario/Governor Simcoe) was drafted last week by the Toronto Lynx Soccer Club. The Lynx compete in the 18-team North American A-League, which is part of the umbrella organization of the United Soccer Leagues.

"I wasn't totally surprised, to tell the truth," noted Kryger. "I was told beforehand that it might be a possibility. Being drafted by Toronto is a good thing because it is close to home. I'm just happy that all the hard work paid off."

Kryger spent two seasons minding net for the Vikings after transferring in 2000 from Wheeling Jesuit. He played in 25 matches (23 starts) and posted a solid 2.01 GAA, making 121 saves. In addition, Kryger's 1-0 shutout of Robert Morris on Sept. 4, 2001 was the first blanking by a CSU keeper since defeating Loyola Chicago, 4-0, on Oct. 11, 1998 -- a span of 42 contests.

"We're here to help these young lads move on to the next level," said CSU assistant Adam Vigon. "It's great for James and for Cleveland State."

The Lynx open training camp in March and begin play in April. Kryger will go to Toronto on weekends until the end of the semester in May.
